Steel and Gold Cuff
20 Karat Green Gold. Steel. Beeswax and Linseed Oil Patina. Wax Seal. Size 7.5” Wrist. 2021.
This is a steel bangle that I shaped, filed, and textured. On it, I have fused 20 karat green gold that I alloyed and rolled out myself. It is finished with an intentional oxidation by hydrogen peroxide and salt, patinated with baked on beeswax and linseed oil, and sealed with renaissance wax. The shank is 6 inches, and should fit a 7.5 inch wrist, give or take a little bit. It is tight on an 8 inch wrist. As this item is handmade, there may be variations in the surface, texture, and patina that may appear different in person than online. As you wear this item, it is normal to expect changes to the surface over time: it will start to become lighter colored and polished where it rubs frequently. It is made of steel, and can potentially rust as the finish wears over time. If you notice any rust forming, use white scotch-brite or very fine steel wool to buff it back. Then, apply a thin coat of mineral oil, or renaissance wax to seal the surface again.
